What I found when we looked closer
Rockland has 6,936 residents but does far more than a typical small city. It is the Knox County seat, home to the Farnsworth Art Museum and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, and the departure point for Maine State Ferry Service runs to Vinalhaven, North Haven, and Matinicus.
Visitors and ferry traffic push call volume well past what the year-round population suggests, and the same small staff writes every report.
In their words
Have been bragging you up with other Chiefs and executives from Maine to Pennsylvania.

The first thing we do with a new department is trace where a report goes after the officer hits submit. Here, it passes through 3 hands:
- 1Patrol officer
- 2Sergeant
- 3Knox County court
Every one of those readers needs the same facts from the first draft. That is what shaped what we built.
What we built for them
What we're watching
These are the signals that will tell us whether it's working here:
- Same-shift report completion in peak season
- Visitor cases closed without a callback
- Report backlog after summer weekends
Figures on this page come from the department's own published materials. We only publish Code Four results after the department reviews them.
