About Code Four

Code Four builds AI software for law enforcement. Officers spend a large share of every shift writing reports; we give that time back without taking the officer out of the loop. Today agencies across the United States use Code Four to draft reports from body-worn camera footage, search digital evidence, and work cases from one place.

Who builds it

Three different routes into the same problem. We work directly with the departments that use the product — most of our roadmap comes from ride-alongs and review sessions with officers and supervisors.

Raised by SROs

I did not come to law enforcement as an outsider looking in. I grew up around school resource officers — the ones stationed in hallways, at games, in the parking lot after last bell. They were not an abstraction to me. They were the adults who showed up, learned my name, and kept an eye on kids who needed one.

What I noticed was how little of their day was actually spent with people. The part of the job that mattered — being present, being known — kept losing to the part that did not: typing the same narrative into the same system after everyone else had gone home.

That is the problem Code Four exists to solve. Not replacing the officer. Giving back the hours that were never supposed to be spent at a keyboard.

Leaving MIT

Dropping out of MIT was not an easy decision. Like most people who get into MIT, I had spent my entire life working toward that goal. The education was incredible, the people were brilliant, and the opportunities were endless. But I kept coming back to one question: what is the highest-impact thing I could be doing with my time?

The answer kept pointing toward Code Four. Not in six months after another semester, not after graduation — now. The problem we are solving is too important and too urgent to wait.

Law enforcement was not an obvious choice for me. I did not have family in policing. What convinced me was sitting with the work itself: hours of footage, a blank narrative field, and an officer at the end of a shift being asked to reconstruct it all from memory.

The officers who stopped

Joseph was four years old when his family was in a catastrophic car crash. His father was pinned in the wreck. The people who got him out were off-duty police officers who happened to be there and did not hesitate — no call, no assignment, no reason to stop except that stopping was the job whether they were on the clock or not.

He grew up knowing that his family was still whole because of a few officers who were not even working that day. That is not the kind of thing you file away. It is the reason he spends his time on tools for law enforcement rather than any of the other places the same skills could go.

It is also why he is unsentimental about the work. Officers who run toward a crushed vehicle should not lose their evenings to a blank text field. The point of building this well is that they get to keep being the people who stop.

How we build

The officer owns the report

Code Four drafts. The officer reviews, edits, and signs. We build review controls — including seldom-used words inserted into drafts — so an agency can confirm a human actually read the output before it enters the record.

Every claim points back to evidence

Drafts and investigative findings link to the original video, transcript, notes, and case context, so a reviewer can verify the work instead of trusting it.

Built for the agencies that use it

We are vendor-agnostic across body-worn camera systems and integrate with the RMS and CAD tools departments already run. Most agencies are live in under ten minutes.

Compliance is not a feature

CJIS controls, encryption in transit and at rest, draft versioning, and full audit trails are the baseline — not an upgrade tier.
