What I found when we looked closer
Dade County has 7,569 residents spread across 506 square miles of southwest Missouri, between Springfield and Joplin. The county seat is Greenfield.
With so few deputies and so much ground, every hour spent writing reports is an hour a large part of the county goes without coverage.
In their words
We've been very pleased with REPORT... our Deputies are loving the product.
Ryan RobisonSheriff · Dade County Sheriff's OfficeFollowing one report through the building
The first thing we do with a new department is trace where a report goes after the officer hits submit. Here, it passes through 3 hands:
- 1Deputy
- 2Sheriff or sergeant review
- 3Court in Greenfield
Every one of those readers needs the same facts from the first draft. That is what shaped what we built.
What we built for them
A draft ready before the next drive turns windshield time back into patrol time.
What we're watching
These are the signals that will tell us whether it's working here:
- Hours per week returned to patrol
- Reports finished before end of shift
Figures on this page come from the department's own published materials. We only publish Code Four results after the department reviews them.
